Parenting is a life-altering experience. It is an opportunity for personal growth, introspection, creative expression, and discovery. It may also be a time of frustration, disappointment, and failed expectations.
Parenting is often also mostly experienced alone with your children. While we may have a partner, friends, or acquaintances to share some of our parenting triumphs and struggles, many times the everyday moments are spent with only the children. Often it is these times - rocking a baby at 3:00 am, watching your toddler finally fit blocks together, consoling your ten-year-old when cut from a sports team, having that personal talk about puberty with your teen - that are the connective tissues of parenting. So often, we want to share these moments, these tiny joys and trials of parenthood, and know that others appreciate the everyday miracles as well. You can share those moments here and read about others, as well.
Sometimes, you have a question about parenting and just don't know where to turn. You're too embarrassed to ask your friends, and advice columnists are unlikely to choose your letter out of the thousands that are sent. You want some personal attention from someone with parenting experience who works with children. You can ask your questions and receive a response here.
In today's world, many parents are isolated from their extended families; friends may have children at different times, people move across the country for work or school, families are smaller. You may not have seen your aunt nursing her baby, you don't know that your cousin co-sleeps, you haven't even seen your parents change a brother or sister's diaper if you were an only child. Many parents nowadays have their first experience with new babies and young children when their own kids are born! It's good to have a community of other parents you can share stories and support with. You can find this here, too.
There are a lot of right ways to parent. May you find fulfillment in yours!
